Mission & Outreach
At Covenant we believe that we are called to profess our faith through living it out. ("In all things proclaim the love of God; if necessary, use words." - Francis of Assisi)

Covenant has a rich history of addressing social and justice issues dating back to the desegregation of churches in Atlanta and more recently, taking a stand on the Georgia flag. To further our Mission Outreach, we currently support the following local community organizations with volunteer hours and/or financial giving: AIDS Alliance for Faith and Health, Buckhead Christian Ministry, the Central Night Shelter, ChildSpring International, Habitat for Humanity, The Open Door Community and Earth Covenant Ministry.

Other areas of outreach include: the Alternative Gift Market, Children of Abraham, Heifer International, the Presbytery Haiti Partnership, and mission workers Shelvis and Nancy Smith-Mather in Kenya.

FIRST SUNDAY FOOD COLLECTION FOR BCM

FIRST SUNDAY BCM FOOD COLLECTION: The Mission Committee has started a monthly collection of food for BCM's pantry on the first Sunday of each month; December 2009 was our first month.  Due to your generous donations, we were able to make two deliveries instead of one.  The Mission Committee and BCM thank you very much. We will continue this process throughout the year, and if you forget to bring your food items on the first Sunday, the following Sunday will be fine.  There are two designated bins marked BCM; one outside the sanctuary on the Terrace street side, the other near the doorway in the Westminster Room (by the parking lot).

The suggested shopping list below will feed a family of four:

Instant oatmeal or grits - 1 box      Peanut Butter - 2 small jars
Jelly - 1 small jar                           Cornbread mix - 2 boxes
Soup - 4 cans                                Macaroni & Cheese - 4 boxes
Dried beans - 1 bag                       Spaghetti - 1 medium box
Rice - 2 bags                                 Spaghetti Sauce - 2 jars
Canned Vegetables - 4 cans           Canned Beans - 3 cans
Canned Tuna - 4 cans

Open Door Community

The Open Door Community is in desparate need of T shirts, especially Large, Extra Large, and 2X.  Anything you can do to help would be appreciated.  Put them in the contribution boxes at the church marked "Open Door" and Bill Roberts will see that they are delivered.  If you would like a receipt for your donation, leave your name.

Habitat for Humanity

Dust off your tools! We will begin building another Habitat house this May through June, along with several other churches.  Check out the Upcoming Events for details of the build schedule.

Central Night Shelter

THE BASICS OF LIFE

Food, clothing and shelter - these are the basics of life. We at Covenant have the opportunity to help those less fortunate with just these basics, things which we take for granted. The Central Night Shelter will provide food, shelter and compassion for over 90-100 men every night from November 1 through the end of March. The Central Presbyterian facility houses 65 guests and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception houses 30 guests. For more information click here. Covenant has been paired up with the Shrine and will provide volunteers to serve those 30 guests throughout the fall and winter.
