THE BASICS OF LIFE
Food, clothing and shelter - these are the basics of life. We at Covenant have the opportunity to help those less fortunate with just these basics, things which we take for granted. The Central Night Shelter will provide food, shelter and compassion for over 90-100 men every night from November 1 through the end of March. The Central Presbyterian facility houses 65 guests and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception houses 30 guests. For more information click here. Covenant has been paired up with the Shrine and will provide volunteers to serve those 30 guests throughout the fall and winter.
WHAT can you do?
There are five different ways to help.
- Overnight volunteers: Volunteers arrive by 7:00 pm and are headed home by 6:30 am the next morning. We divide the night into shifts and each volunteer gives up about 1 ½ - 2 hours of sleep. Men, women, couples have all volunteered. You can invite a friend who is not a member of the church to experience Covenant in action.
- Lunches: Each day the shelter needs 30 bagged lunches. This is a great family project to involve children. Lunches can be delivered to the shelter or to Covenant.
- Dinners: The shelter serves a hot meal each night. This is also a good project for families, groups, friends, work buddies, strangers,.....youth groups, Bible study groups, neighbors. You get the picture - anyone can help with dinners.
- Toiletries: If you have travel-size toiletries, the shelter is always in need.
- Donations: The shelter is run by volunteers on donations. Cash donations are always appreciated but the shelter can also use donated towels.
