Well, the expectation to be joyful and to celebrate can often feel like just another burden for those who have lost a loved one through death or divorce, or who are caring for a sick family member, suffering from illness themselves, have lost a job, are under stress, or are dealing with some other setback, disappointment, crisis or loss in their life. No one wants to be a party pooper, so we all carry on as best we can. But the pain of loss is real, and needs expression and healing.
Whatever your loss or challenge, you are invited to a Blue Christmas Service to be held in our chapel on Sunday, December 19th at 5:30 p.m.
This quiet, meditative worship service will provide an opportunity for us to remember our losses, share our hurting places with God, and open our hearts to God's healing grace. The good news of Christmas is that God's grace comes to meet us in our need; God brings light to illumine our dark places.
To symbolize this, participants are invited to bring a candle to light. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest." So come and invite others you know for whom this service would be helpful.
